I mean, I can respect the professionalism. It's a propulsive story that never lets up. The action sets pieces come fast and furious, and are pretty much the sole reason for this movie's existence. There are some decent acting turns that elevate the mostly pedestrian dialogue. Keanu Reeves is ... you know, Keanu Reeves.
Film Matters
Diving first into the use of color in this film, it is necessary to start at the beginning after the death of John Wick’s wife, Helen. There is a noticeable use of dull, desaturated color throughout these opening sequences of the film. The funeral, of course, is the dullest point in the film in terms of color grading as well as costuming.
The Guardian
In the urban environment of John Wick, an entire service industry of drivers, cleaners and bellman live by night and a code of ethics that, naturally, can be bent for the right price. One of the best things I can say about John Wick is that I’d really love to see more movies set in this world, and they don’t necessarily have to star these characters. But hopefully from the same directors, as their handle on this milieu feels refreshing and new.
